How Catz Jazz Rescue Was Affected By The Bastrop County Wildfire

100,000+ acres and over 1000 residences burned these past few weeks as 57 separate wildfires scorched Texas near Catz Jazz Rescue headquarters.

Catz Jazz Rescue, is located in Cedar Creek in Bastrop County situated on 9 acres on our director’s property here in Texas and our headquarters were directly in the line of fire.

Dozens of aircraft responded to fire danger, including four heavy airtankers, 15 single-engine airtankers, and 13 aerial supervision aircraft.

This was the most severe of the more than 180 wildfires reported in a single week during the weekend of September 3rd, 2011 across our state.

Cedar Creek is just up the way from Austin and the fire that burned there was 16 miles long and 4 miles wide.

We were ordered off-property and into emergency shelters and our director, Cathy Taylor, had been evacuated along with all of our indoor rescue cats, many of which are special needs cases, as the Bastrop County wildfire approached her home. Cathy and those cats are currently safe in temporary housing.

Hundreds of firefighters from around the country descended upon Texas to fight the monster blaze, a fire so big it can be seen in satellite images from space.

We want to thank all who inquired about our safety as numerous wildfires continued to burn out of control in the Bastrop County area.

We greatly appreciate your hopeful thoughts and prayers during this overwhelming time as we were absolutely horrified at the damage and destruction caused to our neighbors and friends in this area.

Though our property was in the line of fire, we are incredibly thankful to report that damage to the property itself was minimal, in the grand scheme of things...

A Letter From Our Rescue Director

"We are very comforted by the inquiries from all the folks concerned for our welfare during the this stressful time dealing with the evacuation due to the area wildfires. We were lucky as the main extent of damages to the property was woods burned at the front of the property.

We have a fair amount of damaged fencing due to burning trees falling and crushing the fencing there and also there was damage to the front and side fences.

The residence is far back on the property and thankfully due to the hard work of the Forest Service and other volunteers the fire was contained before getting close to the home.

I managed to safely evacuate the animals and they are being fostered with various friends and supporters. We are going to keep most of them in their foster positions for a time as the whole area is so dry and the possibility of this happening again is all too real till we get some rain and I DO NOT want to risk the animals lives unnecessarily.

The cats/kittens are being real troopers during this time of upheaval and confusion and we are so proud of them for adapting to the situation so well.

A Letter From Our Assistant Coordinator

"Though we are still stunned and shaken, we are relieved that headquarters are still standing and that Cathy and the indoor cats are safe.

We are now coordinating to recover a large amount of foods and medications lost and are asking for help in quickly trying to recover the most-needed items.

The Bastrop Wildfire near our rescue headquarters had caused power outages resulting in other losses such as spoiled refrigerated medications for the sheltered rescues and kitten milk replacement that requires refrigeration, all of which has been lost.
Frozen food items such as meat and poultry have spoiled; these are items kept on-hand for home-cooking for the special needs cats requiring specific diets. Temperature-sensitive prescription drugs on hand have lost potency.
Our stock supply of dry cat food has been affected due to smoke fumes.
Additionally, we may need to raise funds for smoke odor eliminator equipment. We have put together a list of items that were lost that we are asking for help to recover. If you would like to make a donation of any of these items, please contact us to arrange pickup, we would be very grateful for any replacements and other items that will significantly help us get back on track during this stressful time.

Just a wonderful note that Mara has been placed into a new home after having been saved from being killed at the pound due to lack of space. This mostly black calico kitten had been dumped and faced euthanasia for no fault of her own but now she has a second go at life and can start a new chapter in her life with her new family!

Mara's calico markings are not typical as she has a mostly black coat, and most of her calico colors are on her back and the back side of her left ear, but Mara is definitely a true calico in all the ways which count, which means her new humans are in for a treat since Calico cats are generally considered to be lucky throughout several different cultures!

For instance, in Japan it was thought that having a calico in the house would bring its owners good luck, and having a calico on board ship was considered to protect the sailors from harm! Mara knows she can count her blessings and is be more than happy to do her part to bring good luck and fortune to those that love and cherish her!

THIS CALICO KITTEN HAS BEEN ADOPTED, BUT WE HAVE MANY OTHER WONDERFUL FELINES THAT WILL MAKE AN AWESOME LIFETIME COMPANION!

Marvelous adoption report for Sunkist! We thank her new human companions who have pledged to provide an outstanding forever home and wish the very best for this wonderful orange tabby cat!

Orange female tabby cats like Sunkist are uncommon in comparison to male orange tabby cats because the gene that produces that combination normally shows up as a calico in females and as such female orange tabbys are not seen all that often.

Cat's colors can be sex linked. When you see a calico (black, orange and white) or tortoiseshell cat (black and orange), they are almost always female. A cat's fur colors are on the X chromosome. The colour orange is sex linked on the X chromosome. What that means is for a male to be orange they only have to have one orange gene because they only have one X chromosome. For a female to be orange they have to have 2 orange genes because they have 2 X chromosomes (so she can be black on one, orange on the other). If a female only has one orange gene you end up with a tortoiseshell or calico. Because of this orange males are more common but orange females are a bit more unusual because she would have to have to have orange on both chromosomes to be an orange cat.

There are a lot of of other factors that determine shades of color and pattern of a cat's coat. If you are interested in cat genetics, there is a fun and easy to follow book called "Cats are not Peas" that goes into cat genetics in more detail.

Excellent news of Cara Cara's adoption!

It's rather uncommon to find a female orange tabby since orange males outnumber orange females by about three to one, meaning orange female tabbies only happen about 20-25% of the time. This is because in order for an orange tabby female to be born, it would require for both parents to have an orange coat gene, so that the XX combination determines that they must be red. That makes them more uncommon than males (because in males the X gene in the XY combination takes over, so that even if both parents were not orange, a cat with an X orange gene will be orange - it happens more often in other words).

However, generally speaking, the orange tabby personality, regaurdless of gender is usually that of a very sweet, very devoted cat and Cara Cara is going to bring much love to her human companions as only an orange tabby can do!

National Justice for Animals Week February 20-26, 2011

Does an animal abuser live in your neighborhood? Wouldn’t you want to know if a violent or repeat animal abuser were living next door to you and your family? Animal abusers are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against people and four times more likely to commit property crimes than are individuals without a history of animal abuse.

Convicted animal abusers pose a real, ongoing threat to your pets, your family, and your community. The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s proposed abuser registry legislation would require mandatory registration and community notification for convicted animal abusers. These laws would make a dramatic difference in keeping offenders away from potential new victims by allowing animal shelters and humane societies to more thoroughly screen potential adopters—and by alerting the public to their whereabouts.

Animal victims of abuse cannot speak for themselves. The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) created an annual campaign called the National Justice for Animals Week to raise awareness of how to stop animal abuse in your community. February 20-26, 2011 marks the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s third annual National Justice for Animals Week. PLEASE Sign the petition to demand that your state require animal abusers to register in their communities. Take Action! EXPOSE THE ABUSERS!

A Catz Jazz Rescue Volunteer Needs Emergency Help!

URGENT HELP NEEDED! PLEASE FORWARD THIS POST!!
Please help our wish for him to come true.

A husband, father, brother, friend, and neighbor who lives in our community, is in dire need of our immediate help! At the beginning of July 2010, Chris Blankinship, a trusted and caring volunteer with Catz Jazz Rescue, was diagnosed with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma (grade III). This is a rare (about 4% of the population), life-threatening, rapidly-growing, malignant tumor and is inoperable because it is located on the brain stem.

The longest survivor on record lived for five years and the prognosis for individuals with grade 3 astrocytoma have a median survival time of 18 months with treatment (radiation and chemotherapy). Chris has been given a survival rate of between 9 months to one year.

This has been incredibly surreal for his family and for his friends here at Catz Jazz. It’s been shocking and devastating beyond words, and… completely unbelievable. Because Chris is so well-loved by his friends and family and has always been the "go to guy" for not just his loved ones but for people in this community who have needed him and rely on him to be there, the news of this is heartbreaking and crushing to anyone who knows him. Due to the nature of this specific tumor and it's location, the only available treatment possibilities are very limited clinical trials (experimental treatments) for chemo and radiation treatment possibilities that will easily exceed the tens of thousands of dollars mark, with no guarantees as to success.
But, we are hoping he has been given a conservative prognosis and that with assistance, treatment may be within reach; Chris is not about to give up easily and neither are we.

We believe that with prayers, positive energy and strong willpower, and the financial help from compassionate supporters who are sympathetic to his plight, we can give Chris a chance to opt for those treatment possibilities.

Chris has a wonderful wife and son. Chris’s medical insurance covers them, but not himself. Insurance has denied assistance. Medicaid and Disability have denied assistance because they consider him able to work even if he continues to have seizures. The cost of C.A.T. scans, tests, and lab work are overwhelming, already at the $15,000 mark just for the initial diagnosis and two scans to track the development of the tumor. If Chris is to proceed with any form of treatment, whether it be chemotherapy or less traditional methods of treatment, he has been informed by the medical providers that he will need to pay off the debt related to the first three medical visitations, and though he, his family and friends have gone through all of the savings they have, there is still $15,000 owed before he will be allowed to commence with treatments.

Like everyone, Chris wants to live as good a quality of life as for as long as possible. For him, this now means fighting for the very best cutting-edge treatments available.

Seeing how time is of the essence, having considered different treatment methods versus his quality of life and him needing assistance with medical costs, after unsuccessful appeals to insurance companies, Medicaid, Disability and various charity organisations, and taking into account basic cost of living and building a trust fund for his 3 year old son, Jaxon, -- his friends, as bold as ever, have decided he would get the uncovered treatments available to him that his doctors believe are the best for him -- by paying for them out of pocket.

We have taken this effort on because we love Chris so much for enriching our lives, for always being there for us, for making us smile and laugh, for listening and being such a good friend to us and for the great work he does as a volunteer in animal rescue work and want the people that read about his urgent plight to know what a wonderful and worthy person he is.

And so, after giving everything we have, and still giving as we can, we are now sending out an urgent plea for help from the community to help ease some of the immediate financial burden off of him and his family during this difficult time so that he has the chance to proceed with treatment possibilities.

We understand that there are many other people within our community and across the nation who like us, have been hit by financial difficulties as a result of the recession, but the battle to give Chris, a valued community member and beloved friend, a shot to have a chance at treatment by giving as much as we possibly can, greatly surpasses many of our own needs and because of the extreme urgency of this pressing situation, we therefore humbly beg you to please give anything you can to help us with this expensive endeavor.

Chris needs our help! He currently has lost sight in one eye... and has been suffering fatigue, amongst other ailments and cannot currently work as much as he wants to. He has continued to apply for disability and other foundation options but this process is taking a long time, when time is not a luxury for him.

His sister, Sydney, another volunteer for Catz Jazz Rescue and co-owner of Jaguar Media Group, has set up a ChipIn! Account for Chris which will help publicly track the progress of this critical fundraising event as people help by chipping in with PayPal that will send donations directly into the PayPal account designated for the Chris Blankinship Allowance & Trust Fund.

Please join us in our goal to raise $20,000 by contributing anything you can to support Chris in his journey. Help us ensure that Chris gets the chance to get the healthcare he deserves by participating in this ChipIn! event. There is a moral urgency to this. Please consider that acting quickly is imperative in order for this effort to be a success. CJ Pet of the Week: Meet "Stylin"

Stylin has been waiting 383 days for a forever home! She is our longest-stay resident that has been passed up over younger cats so this week we wanted to spotlight her to remind folks that she is STILL WAITING to meet her forever parents!

Stylin was abandoned at an apartment complex in N. Austin where she was left behind by people with no care as to what would happen to her, and so when we were asked to take her in by a couple of kind hearted, but financially strapped residents that noticed she had been left, of course we took her in to shelter her until her TRUE forever person finds her and can give her all the love and companionship she hopes for.

Stylin is such a wonderful cat who sleeps on top of our director every night, but hopes to have a permanent home where she can be shown what its like to never have to be passed up again, to know what its like to always wake up knowing shes in her forever home with someone who is going to be there for her everyday.

Stylin has been with us for a very long time and has continually been passed up, but she has lots of years to give and is dreaming of finding her forever parents.

Stylin is one awesome cat and has beautiful medium hair and is whats called a grey tuxedo cat.

We think shes pretty cool looking and has a cool personality to match that, and we know she just deserves to have her own home to bunker down in and be a real part of the family.

She likes to go outside supervised, though she doesn't wander far, she just seems to enjoy the fresh air and walking in the grass a bit, being close to nature, so a home where she could have a protected yard to play in while leashed and someone willing to help her learn a harness would be great for her.

She has been passed up for a long time now, but this cat would be a wonderful and loving companion to any accepting household.

R.I.P. Gryffyn

We are incredibly sad to report that the little orange tabby boy, Gryffyn, has died from the FIP virus (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).

Our hearts ache at this loss, as this little boy was so brave and hopeful. We thought that Gryffyn often wondered, 'Are you out there, my perfect family?' That he needed to know that someone out there thought he was perfect! Well, we did.

This little hopeful kitten was such a delight and so adorable with such a unique face, sometimes looking a little too serious, but we know he was just wondering if someone was coming for him soon.

Sadly, Gryffyn had to be pulled from the adoption program because of suspected illness when showing signs of his weak immune system, and though FIP is not a highly contagious disease, unfortunately, there is no known cure or effective treatment for FIP at this time, and once a cat develops clinical FIP involving one or many systems of the cat's body, the disease is progressive and is almost always fatal.

The way clinical FIP develops as an immune-mediated disease is unique, unlike any other viral disease of animals or humans,and is caused by a coronavirus that can infect any cat, most commonly the transmission of feline coronavirus occurs when infected female cats pass along the virus to their kittens and the disease rate is much higher in multiple-cat populations, such as some shelters, like where Gryffyn was pulled from, though quarantine is not necessary as FIP is not truly an infectious disease. Feline Enteric Coronavirus is shed in the feces and can be passed on to other cats, however, it is the mutated form of the virus that leads to FIP.

There is no cure for FIP; treatment is symptomatic and we did our best to prolong a qood quality of life for Gryffyn and made every attempt to make him as comfortable as possible.

This brave little orange tabby truly deserved a chance and we are so saddened that his life was cut short from the mutation of the corona virus that effects anywhere from 1 % to 5 % of the cat population and has no cure.

We hated losing Gryffyn but we don't think he suffered, as his foster mom was constantly aware of his status, keeping a close watch on him and when he stopped eating we knew it was time.

We miss Gryffyn and consider ourselves blessed with his presence for the short time he had here with us.

Gryffyn, you will all ways be remembered for the wonderful little boy you were.

Updated pics of Trapper! This wonderful orange tabby has been waiting over six months as of this posting for his forever home! Please read his story and see if you or someone you know can give this sweetheart a safe place in your home!

Trapper was rescued from the pound JUST before he was to be euthanized at only a few weeks old, along with his three brothers (whom have all been adopted), which would have been a shame as these boys all had very loving dispositions.

Sometimes there will be the kitten that grows a little bit older as more cute kittens come in, and before you know it they are a teenager, and then an adult cat, and they look around at all the cute kittens who come and go, and wonder, 'What happened? Why are all my friends leaving?'

It was always so wonderful and a joy to watch when Trapper and his brothers would all play and romp around and were just such angels when sleeping, with no care in the world knowing they were now safe. But all of Trapper’s brothers got adopted within weeks and Trapper never got picked, leaving him alone at times, or having to make new friends with the new kittens, but then watching his new friends leave, too.

Now Trapper is a teenager and is wondering when he will be able to go home with one of his friends or go into a forever home where he can make new friends that he will never have to be apart from.

Trapper is such a sweet cat, in our opinion, he is a true delight and worth every minute it takes to show him that he doesn’t need to have abandonment concerns any more, that he is welcomed and loved and safe, and won’t have his heart broken again.

New Rescue Cat Zoe Available for Adoption!

New Arrivals are in today including Zoe, a black and white rescue kitten, just one of the latest rescued felines that is ready for their forever homes! Zoe was born with a birth defect where the bones did not develop properly or not at all which resulted in a leg deformity.

Rescued Cat Zoe is now available.

When this special needs kitten was brought to our rescue, we were told that she had contracted tendons in both front paws and that while the right paw corrected itself, the left paw was more severe.

Unfortunately the people who had Zoe and her kitten siblings from their unspayed cat did not get Zoe to a veterinarian to examine the paw, so we took her in for our vet to investigate the supposed contracted tendon in the front leg.

We wanted to make sure that she received the medical attention necessary in case this was an easily correctable problem to make sure that life wouldn't be more difficult and painful for Zoe than needed to be.

We were hoping to get the paw in the correct position, but turns out it is much more than a contracted tendon.

The x-rays show that she is missing the radial bone in her lower left front leg along with her ankle and elbow being luxated.

These are all birth defects and cannot be fixed surgically.

The foot does not slow Zoe down that much, and long as she gets around ok (which she does), our vet recommended leaving it be as long as it doesn't cause her difficulty.

Zoe is a darling kitten and will easily fall asleep in your lap as you pet her.

New Rescue Cat Gwennie Available for Adoption!

New Arrivals are in today including Gwennie, an orphaned Russian Blue rescue cat, just one of the latest rescued felines that is ready for their forever homes! Gwennie came to us as an orphaned kitten at about 3 weeks old and quite sick with URI (Upper Respiratory Infection).
She has a strong survivor will and she was able to muster up the strength to hang in there as we fed and medicated her around the clock for the first 72 hours she was in our care.

Gwennie showed signs of recovering on the third day and has never looked back.

Rescued Cat Gwennie is now available.

This awesome Russian Blue mix kitten not only has a strong survival instinct, but is quite a lover as well.
She has great fun playing with other foster kittens and when it is time for a cat nap she likes to curl up on the bed with her foster mom and other felines (sometimes under the covers).

Gwennie needs to be in a home with other kitties/cats for companionship as she is not a solitary type and would be rather depressed as an only cat.
Gwennie will be on the small side when grown and is already microchipped.

New Rescue Cat Simba Available for Adoption!

New Arrivals are in today including Simba, a Grey Oriental Torbie mix rescue cat, just one of the latest rescued felines that is ready for their forever homes! THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING. Simba was rescued from underneath the porch at Opal Divines - a restaurant on 6th street here in Austin.

Rescued Cat Simba is now available.

She had melted the hearts of all the employees and patrons with her sweet and friendly demeanor. When the kind people who brought Simba to our attention had went to the restaurant, she would come right up to them for some pets, leading them to assume she was abandoned by her former owners because she is such a doll!

It was because of her loving nature that the kind people felt compelled to rescue her from life on the streets and find her the loving forever home she deserves and so that is why Catz Jazz wanted to help!

Simba is very affectionate and loves getting attention and for the most part, she is a quiet cat, except for a couple soft meows every now and then when she is curious about what you're doing.

She gets along great with the other cats in the foster house and LOVES to play.
Other times, she is completely content sitting in your lap for a good snuggle while you are watching TV.
Simba would make a great addition to any household because of her easy going nature and not to mention the fact that she has plenty of love to share.

We believe Simba may be an Oriental mix as she appears to have some Oriental cat breed traits ranging from her large ears, lanky body, activity level and playfulness along with her affectionate and vocal mannerisms, all characteristics associated with the Oriental and it's cousin, the Siamese.

The Oriental is quite well known for being a devoted, loyal, loving and protective cat who adores its family.

They love to play, and enjoy meeting new people, just like Simba!

New Arrivals are in today including Bessie, a gorgeous brown and dark grey rescue cat with a classic tabby pattern, just one of the latest rescued felines that is ready for their forever homes! This sweetheart had been hanging around an office complex for about ten days when someone finally took it upon themselves to seek help for her and contacted us in hopes we would have room for her.

Rescued Cat Bessie is now available.

We really didn't have the space, however we also hate to turn an obviously abandoned cat away as they have already suffered one indignity by their previous human caretakers and we will take no part in compounding the situation for the innocent cat.

Bessie was most likely left behind to fend for herself when previous folks moved from the sprawling apt. complex adjoining the office park. This was really quite rude and dangerous on their part as Bessie had been declawed so she had no defenses against predators she might have encountered, not to mention she had no food, water or shelter and was probably left without even a second's thought from the callous idiots who did this. Shame on them!

Bessie is a very sweet, forgiving cat and just wants to be loved and join a family who will cherish her.

Graydle had been seen hanging around on the U.T. campus most likely abandoned and fending for himself.

A very kind person took it upon themselves to take the time to befriend this kitten and then took him to the vet for the works and then asked us if we could find room for him and the rest as they say is history.

Graydle is a very sweet, affectionate fellow and even though he had been abandoned by his previous person he is still loving and trusting of the good folks.

This 6 month old baby tabby is hoping to meet his forever parents soon now that he has been rescued off the Austin streets.

Like most russian blue kittens, Hayden is a wonderfully adorable and sweet kitten with a most appealing personality.

This little 10 week old russian blue rescue will prove to be a very affectionate cat when he finds his "special person."

Russian blue cats are known to become very close attached to the people in their families; getting especially attached to one or two members of the forever family that they will totally devote themselves to.

If you have been looking for rescued russian blue kittens, come and meet Hayden, he won't let you down and you couldn't ask for a better companion, or one who'll entertain you by learning tricks, or figuring things out.

New Rescue Cat Piper Available for Adoption!

New Arrivals are in today including Piper, one of the latest rescued felines that is ready for their forever homes! We have updated our cat adoption listings in our rescue database, so please take a look to see if there is some cat jazz waiting for you! Piper was saved from having to survive in a feral colony in Avery Ranch, and a previous Catz Jazz adopter asked if we would take her in so that she wouldn't be left to fend for herself being so tiny and young, so here she is.

She is understandably a tad shy, though getting braver every day. Soon she will be able to put her sad beginnings behind her so she can move on into a bright new future into a forever home where she will be cherished.

She enjoys playing with other foster kitties which is wonderful for her socialisation skills and seems quite fascinated with the endless supply of kitty toys she has to play with.

Life could have turned out very different for this sweet 9-10 weeks old grey/creme tabby kitten and we feel that Piper would most likely do best in a home with at least one kitty friend and two would be even better as she finds such comfort with other cats.

New Arrivals are in including Shelley, one of the latest rescued felines that is ready for their forever homes!
We have updated our cat adoption listings in our rescue database, so please take a look to see if there is some cat jazz waiting for you! Shelley was abandoned at a S. Austin apt. complex when former human companions (shame on them!) moved away and left her behind to fend for herself outside.
One of our volunteers had gone to the complex to help a friend and fellow animal lover
get a kitten out from under her car where the momma cat had hidden her. Upon successfully finding and extracting the kitten and reuniting her with littermates already safely ensconsed in the friend's apt., our volunteer returned outside to retrieve a couple items and this is when this beautiful long-haired dilute calico cat made her appearance in the woods bordering the complex.
Well of course upon inquiring as to this newcomer to the feral colony we have been assisting this friend with, and learning that she had been abandoned over a month ago there was no way we were going to allow her to remain to live a life of uncertainty so we took her to the vet for a check over and being given a clean bill of health this beautiful lady is now awaiting for a loving, safe, indoor and forever home.
We think Shelley is about 1-2 years old, still a very young cat with plenty of companionship to offer, and isn't she just gorgeous!?

Updated pics of Gussie! This gorgeous Russian Blue mix has been waiting over a year for her forever home! Please read her story and see if you or someone you know can give this sweetheart a safe place in your home! Can you believe that this rescued Russian Blue is still available for adoption? In June 2009, Gussie was rescued from a field when she was a tiny baby and she was fending for herself and dogs were a threat to her safety, so we took her in so she wouldn't be left to face abandonment with no help. She has been passed up again and again ever since she was a kitten and doesn't understand why all of her friends have gone and left her behind.

As you can see from her new pics taken this October, Gussie enjoys sitting outside, surrounded by nature, supervised of course, and smelling the fresh air and listening to the birds and just watching her surroundings in peace, grateful for having a second chance at life and for humans who are willing to sit with her, sharing companionship. Sometimes we wonder what goes on inside that gorgeous head of hers, and hope she soon will get an application on her from a kind individual who knows Gussie is worth welcoming into their home.

Gussie likes to pretend that she is quite shy although we think it is just a game she plays to test us.

Gussie is so very pretty, with her greyish medium length hair and gorgeous olive-coloured eyes that speak volumes about her patience and willingness to listen about your day and understands that living in the moment is important and appreciating second chances helps make the most out of life.

Gussie knows what life is worth, and she very much wants to settle down with a forever person who will share their life with her, who will talk to her and give her a cozy, warm place to sleep and who will cherish the companionship that she so much wants to give to someone.

Gussie is truly good for the soul, and she is a gal who has patiently been waiting for someone to come and adopt her and help her move forward into a much brighter new life where she won't have to worry about losing friends and can finally have a forever person to call her own.

It is difficult to see Mara's calico markings in her pictures as most of her colors are on her back and the back side of her left ear, however she is a true calico in all the ways which count! This little short-haired calico is one of six rescued kittens that we saved from being killed at the pound simply due to lack of space when her litter had been dumped there. Mara is estimated at 9 weeks old as of October 1, 2010 and she hopes to find her forever home soon so she can forget about her past and move on into a bright new future with someone who will always cherish her.

We have updated our cat adoption listings in our rescue database, so please take a look to see if there is some cat jazz waiting for you! Lucas is an adorable fellow though can be a little on the shy side till he gets to know you. As you can see from his pics he likes to let it all hang out and relax when he isn't climbing up one of several cat towers in his foster home. This little grey and white tabby is estimated @ 10 weeks old as of October 1, 2010 and he does great with other kitty friends. Lucas's estimated D.O.B. is Jul 31, 2010. A letter from the Catz Jazz Webmaster:

Dear Catz Jazz Friends,

Some remarkable animals come through our doors, and into our hearts. The volunteers that work with Catz Jazz Rescue spend lots of time rehabilitating, fostering, bottle-feeding, raising medical funding and caring for the rescues that come in, and subsequently, we get attached to them.

When we see an animal that we've rescued get placed into a forever home, it can be bittersweet for us. In most cases, we have taken an animal from near death or other cruelty and have saved its life and that creates a special bond and impact on us, making it difficult to see each rescue go, but we remain realists, because it is our strong belief that they all deserve homes so they can have the wonderful life they should have had all along.

We do become attached, but when we place a rescue into their (hopefully) forever home, we are also delighted to be able to save another animal's life.

In short, we do this for the love of rescuing, and for the joy in making a difference.

One of the best things about volunteering to be the Catz Jazz Webmaster is hearing about the wonderful impact our animals have had on the lives of their adoptive families.

We are lucky enough to receive a number of cards, letters, photos and emails from adopters and Catz Jazz staff and volunteers sincerely enjoy hearing from adopters and discovering how our rescues are doing in their new homes.

It means so much to us to hear from adopters keeping in touch with us to help remind us why we do what we do and just know that our previous babies are doing alright.

I am working on a brand new format for the Home Sweet Home section where every single success story sent to us will have their very own page so adopters can show off their rescued pets and where you can see what others have posted, too, and I really look forward to receiving an update from those we haven't heard from; have you sent us yours?

Please send us your pet's story (it can be anything from a few sentences or short paragraphs to a detailed letter and I will also scan in yours cards, postcards and pics if you do not have digital photos), along with as many photos of your pet enjoying their new life.

I will review your story and photos and publish them in the new Home Sweet Home section that will be implemented into the website soon and will be dedicated to the Success Stories of some of our rescues after they found their way into forever homes.

We believe all of our adopted rescues are success stories and would really love to hear from you!

Volunteer Fosters Needed!

WE NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE!!!

Catz Jazz operates as a small 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer, limited intake, No-kill rescue with a mission to provide safety, shelter, veterinary care, medical rehabilitation and socialization for abandoned or abused cats (and sometimes dogs) until good permanent homes can be found for them.

We do not maintain a paid staff; our foster, resource and support network are funded exclusively through out-of-pocket contributions and community donations.

We have no shelter facility building to keep the cats so we are working with very limited space with our existing volunteer foster network.

Because we are committed to finding homes for the cats already in our care, when we are at capacity and not able to take in more cats, we are forced to turn away many loving and adoptable cats that need help.

We have an urgent need for fosters who can care for cats, particularly nursing or pregnant cats, orphaned baby kittens and longest stay residents.

Catz Jazz Rescue has had an especially difficult year so far ranging from a large barn fire, a dog attack on our managed feral colony, unexpected illnesses and medical expenses and low community funding/financial support.

We sure could use some extra help right now.

All of the animals we take in come from hopeless situations, local kill shelters, cruelty cases released from law enforcement or from owner surrenders who no longer want their special needs or older cats and we also help keep feral strays from reproducing on the streets by participating in T-N-R.

We have absolutely no available space for anymore cats or kittens, so when our current fosters are at capacity, we cannot take in any more.

Yet every day when cages fill at the local kill shelters from people abandoning their animals because they don't want them anymore, hundreds of cats and kittens are killed to make room for the new ones coming in.

If you want to help save some of these adoptable cats and have an extra room, please consider opening up your home and become a foster parent for cats in need.

Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week

Please Spread the word about Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week Sept. 19 – 25

Petfinder.com, the largest online database of homeless pets, has designated September 19–25 as a week for its over 13,400 member animal welfare organizations to focus on their hard-to-place pets. Catz Jazz Rescue, a local animal rescue group, is participating in this event this week dedicated to spotlighting those forgotten animals that are most often overlooked in shelters and rescues. It's all about getting people to take a second glance -- and give a second chance -- to those rescues whose only crime is being a little older, the "wrong" color, a bit more shy due to past neglect or abuse, or otherwise "less adoptable" -- but who have just as much love to give.

We are asking you to help spread the word about Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet Week that Catz Jazz Rescue is participating in. Because Catz Jazz does not maintain a paid staff (our foster, resource and support network are 100% volunteer and our operation is funded exclusively through out-of-pocket contributions and community donations) we have volunteers who help us advocate the message of compassion towards forgotten felines and are involved with Action Alerts on behalf of our group. With *less than 5 people* on our volunteer team and a few fosters, we work hard to reach out to our friends and associates in hopes that there will be some kind and dedicated people who are interested in joining us to make a change for forgotten animals by adopting, fostering, donating or participating in spreading the word about us.

Right now, we are hoping you can you spread the word about Petfinder’s Adopt-A-“Less-Adoptable”-Pet Week.

Part of the title of this section is in quotations because, we cringe a little, calling pets "less adoptable."

But, we get it. We have seen our fair share of special "special needs" pets that we have had the chance to meet and we have shared their amazing stories with our website readers and yes, there are challenges sometimes with special cats, but we also know that sometimes the “less adoptable” ones aren't just hard-to-place seniors or those with a health-related challenge, sometimes they are "less adoptable" simply because their fur is black or they are the "wrong" breed or they are not as “cute” as a kitten is.

That’s why this week is important, because putting a spotlight on those overlooked cats that need homes is crucial so that we can continue to save lives.

Catz Jazz Rescue has rescue cats RIGHT NOW in our program that have been passed up again and again and are dreaming of finding their forever person to come and adopt them and give them a great life that they truly deserve!

They were once kittens, once they were the cutest of their litters, once someone might have said, 'He's so cute; he'll be snapped up in a minute!’ But that didn’t have for them. Sometimes it just doesn’t.

Sometimes there will be the kitten that grows a little bit older as more cute kittens come in, and before you know it they are a teenager, and then an adult cat, and they look around at all the cute kittens who come and go, and wonder, 'What happened? Why are all my friends leaving?'

Please understand that the number of truly needy cats that we can accept into our program, is based on the number of adoptions we have, and we have many cats in our care right now that we have already pledged priority to and until we find them homes, we cannot rescue more cats from neglect and abuse.. and there are SO MANY cats suffering out there right now that we don’t have space for.

Our limited resources allow us to address only a small portion of the need that exists out there, and we are often forced to turn away cats in need of help until we have space again.

***So spread the word this week***, please, if you can, take a few minutes to forward this post to all of your friends and associates. Send them an email, get on your twitters, your facebooks, your myspaces and help put a spotlight on animals that are being overlooked.

Ask them to take a look at the cats we are spotlighting and see if maybe their home is where these cats can start to heal their hearts.

We have chosen 5 of our most passed up, yet, very adoptable and loving cats that we want to call special attention to, who've waited for up to a year for a forever home, and still wait… hoping for a forever mom or dad (or family) that will step up and be a champion for them!

So, let's get the word out about these wonderful cats that have so much to give and are so very worthy of this spotlight!

They need to know that someone is out there, their perfect person. They need to know you're there and you are going to help them.

Hobbes
Extra-Toes Cat (Hemingway Polydactyl)/Tabby - Brown Mix

Hobbes is a brown tabby male polydactyl that has been with Catz Jazz since he was just weeks old.

Hobbes came in with a brother (Calvin) and we had hoped to adopt them out together, but his brother got more interests than he did, and we didn’t want to deny his brother a good home, so we went ahead and split them up, and Hobbes has been waiting ever since then for someone to choose him, too.

While in foster, Hobbes became very close with a female special needs cat that accidently got outside, and was playing right outside of Hobbes’s window when a dog came and attacked and killed her, and we are sure that Hobbes witnessed this attack and we had to pull him from the program while he dealt with his depression, but we think he is now ready again to try and find his forever person.

He is very playful and quite a little helper around the house. Hobbes is an absolute sweetheart and lovebug deluxe! He has been through quite a lot this past year and just wants a place where he will be a permanent part of the family and be able to share many years of friendship with his loved ones.

Triscuit
Domestic Medium Hair-Black Mix

Triscuit was dumped at a kill shelter with his sister, whom was adopted quickly.

But Triscuit has been with us since he was 9 weeks old and STILL gets passed up...

He really needs a forever home with someone who will look past the fact that he is plain black and be willing to see his amazing personality, and appreciate that cute little face of his and those big eyes, so full of innocence.

He was just a teeny tiny baby when he was dumped at the pound without a birth mother.

We don't know what happened to the mother, but we hope so much that she is okay. As for, Triscuit, he is quite the little rascal and has a good temperament, loves to be part of whatever’s going on and is eager to find his forever family.

Black cats are the last to be picked, so we hope you will consider being a hero for Triscuit.

Oleo
Domestic Short Hair - Orange And White/Tabby

Oleo is a medium sized orange and white tabby with an exuberance for life along with a loving disposition. Oleo had been dumped at the pound with her 4 kittens in springtime when the kittens were just a few weeks old. She took great care of her babies, whom have gone onto loving homes and we want Oleo to have the same, too.

Being barely out of kittenhood herself when she came to us, she quickly showed us her zest for life, being playful and forgiving of humans, just wanting to be someone’s best friend.

She’s been passed up many times, because she is not a tiny cute kitten. But, like all kittens, she grew up and desperately needs to find her forever home with people who will love her for who she is and know that she has many years of companionship to offer.

Now as a young lady, she is still playful, but being in foster for so long is not good for a cat as they lose hope after time, and we do not want Oleo to lose that playful and loving nature she has been able to maintain for all this time.

Please give this wonderful cat a chance and don't pass her up, she is so ready to be part of a family that will protect her and wants her to be a cherished lifetime companion!

Stylin
Domestic Medium Hair - Gray And White/Tuxedo

Stylin has been with us for a very long time and has continually been passed up, but this is one awesome cat!

She has lots of years to give and is dreaming of finding her forever parents.

Stylin has beautiful medium hair and is what’s called a “grey tuxedo cat”. We think she’s pretty cool looking and has a cool personality to match that, and we know she just deserves to have her own home to bunker down in and be a real part of the family.

Stylin was abandoned at an apartment complex in N. Austin where she was left behind by people with no care as to what would happen to her, and so when we were asked to take her in by a couple of kind hearted but financially strapped residents that noticed she had been left, of course we took her in to shelter her until her TRUE forever person finds her and can give her all the love and companionship she hopes for.

She is such a wonderful cat who sleeps on top of our director every night, but hopes to have a permanent home where she can be shown what it’s like to never have to be passed up again, to know what it’s like to always wake up knowing she’s in her forever home with someone who is going to be there for her everyday.

She likes to go outside supervised, though she doesn't wander far, she just seems to enjoy the fresh air and walking in the grass a bit, being close to nature, so a home where she could have a protected yard to play in while leashed and someone willing to help her learn a harness would be great for her.

She has been passed up for a long time now, but this cat would be a wonderful and loving companion to any accepting household.

Trapper
Domestic Short Hair - Buff/Tabby

Trapper and his three brothers (whom have all been adopted), were rescued from the pound just before they were to be euthanized, which would have been a shame as all four of these boys had very loving dispositions.

It was always so wonderful and a joy to watch when Trapper and his brothers would all play and romp around and were just such angels when sleeping, with no care in the world knowing they were now safe. But all of Trapper’s brothers got adopted within weeks and Trapper never got picked, leaving him alone at times, or having to make new friends with the new kittens, but then watching his new friends leave, too.

Now Trapper is a teenager and is wondering when he will be able to go home with one of his friends or go into a forever home where he can make new friends that he will never have to be apart from.

Trapper is such a sweet cat, in our opinion, he is a true delight and worth every minute it takes to show him that he doesn’t need to have abandonment concerns any more, that he is welcomed and loved and safe, and won’t have his heart broken again.

Rescued Cats Hansel & Gretel are now available. Hansel & Gretel are 9 week old littermates that are bonded and must be adopted together. These darlings were born to a mom in a feral colony managed at an apt. complex in S. Austin. A couple weeks ago mom brought her 4 kittens up to the caretaker's patio and overnight tragedy struck when a raccoon killed two of the kittens. The remaining kittens, Hansel & Gretel, witnessed this horror and have since become inseparable, understandably, so to that end, these two must be adopted together. Absolutely fabulous news today of Della's adoption!
Someone extraordinary has stepped forward to provide this wonderful cat a forever home!
Della had been passed up for months and watched the other kittens around her get picked and go into loving homes.
Della waited patiently for someone to choose her, but as time was passing, she got older and was less and less considered.
Until someone amazing stepped forward for her and made the pledge to love and provide for her and help her forget about her not so great beginnings so she can begin a new chapter in her life!

It is anyone's guess why this fellow was given up as we couldn't get an answer to that query and he is a very well mannered kitty. Like most kitties he likes to play and has lots of energy to expend. Poteet, small white kitten has come back and needs a FOREVER home!

Poteet has been returned to Catz Jazz. She has come back because the adopters say she cries during the day while they are away...
As stated in her orginal bio, Poteet is social and though she was the baby in a litter of four, she is no shrinking violet by any means. She loves to play with her littermates and she gives as good as she gets, so we do not blame her for being quite lonely with no one to play with. Maybe she will get adopted with her brother, Pascal who is the identical twin to Poteet.

Rescued Cats Bennie and Jerrie are now available.
Meet Bennie and Jerrie, grey tabby Manx brothers estimated at 11 weeks old as of Sept 2nd, 2010. Bennie + Jerrie are littermates that had been born in a barn and the land owners did not want any more cats around and were going to take them to a kill shelter. It was suggested to them to try calling a no-kill rescue as this way they would not be at risk of being killed. And, after some discussion about the necessity for spay/neuter the land owners agreed to allow Catz Jazz to come get the cats, have them spayed and neutered and returned to their barn and we agreed to take the remaining kittens into rescue. So here is how Bennie and Jerrie came to be rescued, vaccinated and ready for a loving home! These two kitties are quite adorable to watch as they chase one another and other foster kitties they are getting to know. They race up the cat trees so fast they are a mere blur. Bennie has a small nub of a tail while Jerrie has no tail at all and neither are affected by the Manx syndrome. We would like to see these two adopted together.

Rescued Cat China is now available. This is China, a white domestic short-haired female cat estimated at 1-2 years old. China had been left behind at an apartment complex when former humans moved without taking her, really crummy, but then if they will do that they don't deserve the company of a cat. So one person at the complex would take China's kittens each time she had them and sell them on Craigslist. After this happened a couple times another person at the complex was so incensed that the next time China got pregnant she took her inside for her to have her kittens and raise them. While China was allowed to raise her kittens plans were made for her and the kittens to go into rescue when they got to be 8 weeks old and get China spayed so that this cycle of neglect could end, so here we are! China has been a wonderful mother to her kittens but now it is time for her to retire from motherhood and enjoy life. She has been around young children and cats but not dogs. The Animal Rescue Site and Petfinder have announced the date for the next Animal Rescue Site Shelter+ Challenge. Catz Jazz again will be participating for the chance to win The Grand Prize of $10,000 in grant money to help abandoned and abused cats in need. Beginning on Monday, September 20th, 2010, and running through Sunday, December 19th, the Holiday Shelter+ Challenge allows you to vote every single day! Rescued Cat Freda Mae is now available.
This is the gorgeous Freda Mae, who has been returned back to us with a heavy heart from her previous adopters. Freda Mae was welcomed into a home that also included another cat which did not welcome Freda Mae even though Freda Mae was very subservient to the other cat. Freda Mae was constantly running for cover as the other cat would attack her every chance she got and nothing the folks tried to stop this behavior worked and they didn't want Freda Mae to be living in fear in her own home. Freda Mae is not aggressive towards cats, rather she welcomes their company. We think she would do fine in a home with other cats as long as they are not alpha in nature and would most likely strive to become buddies with another cat as she is such an accepting gal. Freda Mae also does great with dogs as she was briefly (3 months) living in a household with a golden retriever. Freda Mae is a cool grey tabby with white splashing, estimated @ 1-1/2 to 2 years of age and is spayed and up to date on vaccs. This is an exceptional cat in that she rolls over for her tummy to be rubbed and stretches full out for more! Such a friendly and easy going cat. Peaches was a very protective and loving momma to her kittens and they have all gone on to loving homes and now that Peaches has been spayed she is seeking a loving, forever family to adore and treasure her for the gem that she is. Peaches is a sweet, affectionate cat who still has a bit of kitten in her as she still likes to play with assorted toys especially those with feathers! Rescued Cat Beanie is now available. COURTESY POSTING. I am Beanie, a gorgeous 7-8 year old grey tabby with a cute bobtail. I was found in an east Austin neighborhood and some nice people are taking care of me in their home. I love being held and petted and at the vet they said I was a real Love-Bug. I have some health problems but I am getting better everyday. I have been diagnosed with heartworm (the vet has prescribed pulse therapy with antibiotics so the medicine comes with me) and I have had some problems with bad teeth (two were pulled recently when I was neutered) but one still remains and needs to be removed in the future. Arrow, Tortoiseshell, is now ready for adoption!

Rescued Cat Arrow is now available.
This is Arrow, a sweet short-haired tortie cat estimated at 2 years old. Arrow had been left to fend for herself in a rather dangerous area for some time when a compassionate soul took it upon themselves to see to it that she was secured into a rescue which is where we came in. Arrow had at one time been in a home as she was too friendly to have been feral so we can only surmise that she was abandoned and life on the streets is no place for a cat. Arrow is a very laid back cat who enjoys a warm, cozy spot for napping, a few affectionate head rubs, fresh food/water daily and she is content. Arrow would probably do best as a single pet with possibly one other non intrusive cat in the home. She is really a darling cat, and if you are a lover of the tortoiseshell feline, don't look her over!

Rescued Cat Stylin is now available.
Stylin has been with us since winter of '09, and has continually been passed up, but this is one awesome cat! She is about 2-3 years young, with lots of years to give and is dreaming of finding her forever parents. Stylin has beautiful medium hair and is a grey tuxedo cat. She is spayed and up to date with her vaccs and has a cool personality and we know she just deserves to have her own home to bunker down in and be a real part of the family. She was abandoned at an apartment complex in N. Austin in fall of 2009 when we were asked to take her in by a couple of kind hearted but financially strapped residents. Of course we took her in to shelter her until her forever person finds her and can give her all the love and companionship she hopes for. She is such a wonderful cat who sleeps on top of our director every night, but hopes to have a permanent home. She likes to go outside though she doesn't wander far, she just seems to enjoy the fresh air and walking in the grass a bit so a home where she could have a protected yard to play in and someone willing to help her learn a harness would be great for her. She has been passed up for a long time now, but this cat would be a wonderful and loving companion to any accepting household. Do you think you could be the person to take this wonderful cat and show her what life should be like?

Sessa, gorgeous grey tabby is back with us and needing a new home!

Rescued Cat Sessa is back with us and available.
Sessa is a very gorgeous little grey tabby, estimated @ 22 weeks old as of 8/24/10. This cutie was returned back to us after a very short adoption due to the person not having time for her. She is one of three littermates rescued from euthanasia at the pound. Like most kittens her age, Sessa is a playful and friendly sweetie with lots of love and joy to share. It's a shame that someone would adopt her with the promise for lifelong care and then chagne their minds, especially with such a loving and tender kitten. It's not good for cats to bounce around like that, so we hope that a serious adopter will step forward for Sessa! Check out her beautiful tabby stripes! Photos current as of 5/27/10.

Funds Needed For Feline Comfort/Recovery Buildings

Please Help Catz Jazz Raise Funds for Feline Comfort & Recovery Buildings

We have a serious need for donations and fundraiser volunteers to help us get some comfort and recovery buildings for the rescued cats in our care!
We have 8-9 acres of land in Cedar Creek, Texas that we are able to build on, and we are launching a campaign to help us raise funds for quality prefab structures like these to be able to house the abandoned and abused cats in our care, particularly, incoming, pregnant or nursing, senior and special needs cats. Currently we have nothing like this setup, so we are sending out an urgent plea for help in providing proper housing such as a building for pregnant/nursing cats, one for isolation/medical treatment to help reduce contagious colds, etc. and keep the other cats healthy, one for new arrivals to spend time recovering from their situation and a hospice for the senior cats that are having a hard time getting adopted and other cats that no one wants. webmaster@catzjazz.org

Each home-style constructed pre-fab building will cost approximately $10,000-$13,000 and will be insulated, have electricity ran in, have windows and proper ventilation and will be temperature controlled. They are actually a lot bigger than they look!

These much-needed buildings will provide our rescued cats spacious room to recover and allow them to be well-cared for and nap comfortably and dream of their future forever home while we diligently care for them until that dream comes true.

Each $300 donation will receive a personalized nameplate inside one of our cat buildings. The big heart sponsor that will donate the entire cost of one of these buildings will have the building named after them with an engraved plaque above the building door.

All donations are tax deductable.

Our rescue work is made possible by generous contributions from the community of people who appreciate what we are doing in saving previously discarded lives and keeping more unwanted animals off the streets. We are limited in resources, but have the WILLPOWER to carry on our work, if only people can help out financially. We are not even close to being as well-funded as some of the other animal rescue groups in our community, nor do we receive anywhere near the amount of donations or public exposure. But we ARE MORE THAN WILLING to keep doing good work all the same. Though, it would truly impact our ability to carry out our work if we had a few more resources. The monthly cost of keeping our rescue operation afloat is mostly funded out of pocket from the central group of volunteers that work daily to ensure the safety, medical needs and recovery of abandoned and abused cats.

If you want to help in some capacity to give abandoned cats a place to reside while waiting for their families to find them, please contact us if you can donate funds, help organise a fundraiser, donate materials or assist in providing professional services! We also will need volunteers to sign up for clearing brush on the property and put up stronger fencing material to help secure the perimeter.

This Saturday August 21st, is National Homeless Animals Day

Please join Catz Jazz in observing this day that sheds light on a global tragedy, pet overpopulation. This is a crisis that condemns millions of loving and adoptable companion animals to death every year at an expenditure of millions of taxpayer dollars. Unwanted animals are brought into this world by irresponsible owners. We as a nation of people who pride ourselves on caring for the less fortunate, need to educate our communities on the importance of spaying and neutering pets to stop the killing.

Please do your part by promoting spay/neuter.

The Animal Rescue Site hosted a special challenge for eligible Petfinder.com member shelter and rescue groups. As a qualified Petfinder member, Catz Jazz was entered into this contest to try and win the grand prize of a $10,000 grant. Unfortunately this contest is nearing its end date of Aug 22nd and we are too far out from the top, BUT, out of 1000 participating Texas shelters and rescue groups, we sure did make a lot of progress and know that next year we can really have a shot to help more cats in need! Think how many animals we could help for $10,000 if we win next year!

We recently became aware that we were unfortunately notified 2 WHOLE MONTHS LATER than some other rescue groups about this shelter challenge and that really put us at a disadvantage, but that's alright, because now that we know the exact starting date for next year, JUST THINK WHAT WE CAN DO NEXT YEAR when the challenge happens again!

Catz Jazz staff were very excited to have been included in this event. We hope you understand how much showing your support means to us! We know that sometimes it seems so overwhelming to try to do something helpful for animals in need when you have limited resources and time, but today we are here to tell you that YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE.

We are SO VERY PROUD of all of you for making time to do this and helping us make such a HUGE leap in just one month's time! We had no idea that some of you were going to go through such lengths to get votes for us and would bother voting every day, and knowing that you did this for us means such a lot and makes a difference because it shows that you BELIEVE in us and our work.

Thanks to Gizmo's foster, we have some new updated pics of him here!! Gizmo is a short-haired black and white 18 week old male kitten. Luckily, Gizmo, and his brother, who has been adopted, were saved from a life on the streets by a kind person who took them into their home and cared for them while making arrangements for us to take them as room allowed. While Gizmo is still a tad shy, he is also a playful, healthy kitten who would be an awesome addition to a loving household, especially if adopted with another kitten that he can find comfort with. He has been on the site already for 9 weeks! Hard to believe no one has stepped forward to be his hero. Could you be the one?

Venus, Calico Maine Coon, is back with us and needing a new home!

Venus has been returned back to us after having been adopted back in December 09, with the reason cited as "does not like boyfriend". Venus was only 2 months old when she was adopted and we suspect that after eight months, her kitten novelty has worn off and this couple does not want to bother with her anymore. Another thing to note is that after examining Venus, it has become quite clear to the whole Catz Jazz staff that this cat has been traumatized in some way, and we have serious concerns about what she was subjected to, but we suspect that whatever happened to her, made her do something that prompted the issue of "does not like boyfriend". Makes us deeply concerned for Venus and we must act quickly to place her into another environment with a loving person who can immediately show her love again, as this is a crucial time and we do not want her to spend too much time in foster because this will exacerbate her stress from all the moving around. PLEASE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED LET US KNOW ASAP! Time is of the essence in placing her into a LOVING AND KIND HOME. This cat is still very young and is a tiny, beautiful creature. She is fragile and shy but with compassion and patience, your home could be where she heals her broken heart! Please help her forget about whatever happened to her at this other household! She is a beautiful medium-haired Calico that is on the small side, even now at 10 months of age, so she may stay quite petite. In this picture she is 2 months old, I will try and get new pics posted asap, but do contact us if you think you want to adopt her so we can set up a meeting!

Turner is an awesome cat who was lucky enough to show up on the doorstep of an animal lover when his previous humans abandoned him leaving him on the streets to fend for himself, which didn't go too well for him for when he showed up at this kind person's home he was quite a bit bedraggled and on the thin side. Now thanks to the kindness of compassionate humans showing him that not all humans are the same, he is a well fed, very handsome and outgoing fellow who doesn't hold it against the rest of us for what was done to him by his former callous human/s. Aside from his wonderful personality, he has two different colored eyes which are nicely offset by his white hair. And he doesn't seem to be worried around dogs. Faith has white socks on her front paws and is a tad smaller than her brother Topi (finnish male name that MEANS "hope"), while Topi is a tad shy but seems to follow his sister's lead when sensing that all is okay when getting attention from admirers. Rescued Cat Trudy is now available.
This is Trudy, a blue creme tortoiseshell kitten, estimated @ 8-9 weeks old. Trudy is an energetic and playful kitten who enjoys romping about with her siblings. She also excels at the trac ball toy she spends a great deal of time playing on as evidenced in her photo. Upon becoming tuckered out from all the play, Trudy will curl up with her littermates for a cozy nap and it is hard to tell where one kitten begins and where the next one ends! Rescued Cat Trixie is now available.
This is Trixie, a blue creme tortoiseshell estimated @ 8-9 weeks old. Trixie along with her littermates(Trudy, Torrey, Trystan) make up quite the awesome foursome! There is no telling what antics you will be treated to when Trixie and her clan get to making merriment but rest assured you will not be disappointed with the show! We have partnered with Kuranda Beds and they are giving special wholesale pricing to anyone who wants to donate a Kuranda cat bed to Catz Jazz!

Our rescued cats and kittens love to sleep on Kuranda cat beds and play on the kuranda cat towers while they wait for their forever homes, but we just don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a cat bed at for a another Austin rescue cat to sleep in comfort, please consider donating a Kuranda cat bed to our rescue group. Thank you for your consideration!
